I've gotten HITMAN: World of Assassination to work on macOS a total of two times, and both times I don't know what I did.

The current CrossOver bottle I have that successfully runs v.3.210.2 is essentially a glass house that I tip-toe around every time I use it because one breath in the wrong direction, and I feel like the entire thing will come crashing down.

I've tried installing the game in new bottles. Doesn't work. I've tired installing new versions of the game. Doesn't work.

The original version I ran in this bottle was v.3.180.x because that's the version provided in the DODI Repack. That version worked for some reason... but only in this specific bottle. Every other time I've tried installing it in a new bottle, the game was unplayable.

I tried upgrading from v.3.180.x to v.3.210.1, and that didn't work. The game was unplayable.

By then, the entire game was broken, so I almost gave up hope on getting HITMAN: WOA to work on macOS ever again. Then, for some reason, I upgraded it to v.3.210.2, and the it was still unplayable. I started tinkering, which caused me to open and close the game over and over again. It was unplayably laggy (just like every other time and situation) until one time it just wasn't; It started working.

So now HITMAN: World of Assassination v.3.210.2 runs perfectly on my M1 iMac, and I'm never touching this bottle again in my life. It will stay that way–perfectly immortalized for me to play until a CrossOver update, itself, manages to break it.

Saw these tags and had to respond. Looks like from the trouble reports I'm seeing it has to do with 10gig ethernet. I was going to do a full write up but someone already covered it:

"energy efficient" drops power to the 10Gb Ethernet chip to save energy. It is NOT compatible with Top Speed. In the hardware pane, under Duplex, set: “Full-Duplex, Flow Control” NOT “Full-Duplex, Flow Control, power efficient” to disable power saving and boost top speed.

The Mac Studio has a 10Gb Ethernet port. If you have some fancy equipment at the other end of the cable, it is possible it is trying to make a 10Gb connection.

A 10Gb (or 5Gb or 2.5Gb) connection is only stable when cables are excellent and fairly short (like Category-6 rated cables under 100 feet). If either of those are not true, or you have you added patch cables that are not Category-6 rated, you could be seeing it connect at a faster-than-Gigabit speed, then error out and disconnect.

TL;DW though is that hidden in the Terms and Conditions for Google's AI Labs is a nice little poison pill that says they get access to your entire Google Drive if you opt in.

So if you're an author of some type and you keep your unpublished works in your G-Drive that means an AI will get to scrape all of it and by opting in you will have given them permission to it. The content creator goes on to predict that Google is going to let out their own streaming service where the scripts, and potentially the art if it's animated, will be almost or entirely AI generated using that scraped data as a baseline and the authors/artist's who's work was essentially stolen in its most raw form to crib from will have zero way of fighting Google on that in our current legal system.

This is of course right in the middle of the writers and actors strike where we're seeing just what lengths studios will go to in order to screw everyone but themselves.

They go on to recommend that if you keep any creative or personal works on Google Drive that you pull it off as soon as possible and delete your entire Drive. They acknowledge that of course this doesn't mean Google really deleted the data but if you do it before they start compulsory opting everyone in there's a chance your work might get overlooked. They also recommend several free editing programs that aren't run by corporations like Google with LibreOffice (the default office program of most Linux distros) being named.

Finally they go over methods of shaming Google which I feel like you just have to watch for comedies sake so I won't describe them in full.

Now this is from me: I know the majority of people don't have the ability to build and manage a big archive just for themselves, but if you're a creative NOW IS THE TIME to educate yourself on what you can do to protect your works. Cloud storage was always iffy at best, but with AI scraping entering the mix it's now downright malignant. Get a bunch of thumb drives, buy some external hard drives, if you have the money buy a pre-built NAS, and if you really want to get into learn how to build your own NAS. These are the old ways before cloud and they're coming back again, more important than ever.

With help from Spasi over at the LWJGL Forum, I got TriangleFan meshes working on macOS yesterday. It was tougher than I expected.

To deal with a nonconforming Vulkan device, you must enable the KHRPortabilitySubset device extension, but conforming devices don't implement that extension. So you must check its availability before enabling it.

To find out what features the nonconforming device lacks, you must invoke the vkGetPhysicalDeviceFeatures2KHR() method. But if you haven't enabled the KHRGetPhysicalDeviceProperties2 instance extension, you'll get a puzzling NullPointerException instead. (Guess how I know this!)

Once the app knows TriangleFan is unimplemented, it checks each mesh entering the graphics pipeline. If the mesh is a TriangleFan, my code silently converts it to a TriangleList. (That was the easy part.)

With that issue resolved, most of my physics demos and tutorials seem to work. (Soft-body physics not included.) My plan is to port/test/commit the apps one by one, generating screenshots and/or video as I go.

doesn’t have to be any specific “beginner-friendly” distro or whatever, could just be WSL even . just gives you a different perspective on OSs :)

like if you’re sick of Windows/MacOS and are frustrated that you need to keep upgrading your hardware to run the newest versions, why not experience something else and download VirtualBox n try out a Linux distro for a bit, see if you like it,, I think you might be surprised by some of em :)

i still use Windows 10 for my desktop, mainly for gaming and art etc, but i switched over to Linux Mint on my laptop a while ago and have used it for school, and it’s been running better than when it had Windows on it. does what i need it to do, and using the terminal to do stuff feels fun and kinda powerful with how easy it is to install stuff with it :)

was there troubleshooting involved? yes, but it was often fixed by just looking up your problem and finding answers on stackexchange or linux forums, not too different from troubleshooting windows tbh lol

i’ve also recently got a mini pc to use as a little server for stuff, like discord bots. even tho the specs are a little on the lower side, it’s still able to run stuff pretty well since I installed Xubuntu on it, which is specifically designed to be quite light on system resources, and it’s been great too :)

anyways point is,, try out Linux in some form, why not :) if you have an old laptop/desktop sitting around, try reviving it by installing a lightweight linux distro on it! the less e-waste the better :3

What is there to say about an Amiga 1000 that hasn't been said by people more qualified than I to say it.

This unit is more or less stock although showing no signs of life when I got it. The prior owner fitted a pistorm to it that unfortunately corrupted it's install and will need to be rebuilt but for the time being I have installed the MC68000 CPU in it and it came up immediately.

Here's a tip where my normal troubleshooting method backfired, the A1000 needs it's WOM board installed to do anything so stripping the system down to it's motherboard for testing will only render a brick.

On a successful POST as it is, the system will ask for it's kickstart disk and load from that. Then it asks for the workbench disk. which is the actual OS. Kickstart is the systems extended BIOs and is loaded into the WOM board which is then gated so it can only be read afterwards. Supposedly, once the WOM is loaded, even if the machine crashes, so long as it's reset and not power cycled, you won't need to load kickstart again, I have not tested this at this time.

Surprisingly using workbench is very easy if you are used to OS's like classic MacOS. However unlike the Mac, the disk drive has a mechanical eject button so no dragging anything to the trash can to eject a disk. Right now since I don't have any applications or games for it, I just have a booting machine and not much else.

A quirk of the system, I'm not sure if it's something wrong with my system or it's just how the A1000 behaves, it does not like an empty disk drive, if there's no disk present, it will seek the drive periodically looking for a disk. If a disk is present, it will try to read it and mount the disk on the desktop.

ive been a simmer for quite some time now, and ive seen several posts on different platforms (this one included) about save files acting weird or bugging out for various reasons! i know the sims 4 mod reddit already has a trouble shooting guide, but if that doesnt help, i want to offer this more... time consuming fix!!!

this was originally posted as a comment by me, ive tweaked it just a bit

PREFACE

this guide is for those who have tried updating their mods, but something still doesnt seem quite right! ive been there, done that! this is a fix that has worked for me and, honestly, it is a bit of a convoluted way to do it!

i want to preface this with this may not be the fix you need or are looking for and that a lot of these steps can be avoided if you simply want to try to update your mods and repair your game! a lot of times, doing those two things will fix it!

if something still isnt quite right, you can try this! tldr: you take your mods & saves out, delete your cache, repair your game, run your game, put your saves and mods back in. heres a step-by-step on how i personally do this

GUIDE STARTS HERE

if youre experiencing a homescreen that says "wwwww..." where the household name should be, try repairing/restoring a previous save before continuing with this guide. as far as im aware, that glitch means your household has been corrupted and therefore lost. the game cannot detect any sims in that household, hence the 'w' where the name should be. you may have to delete that save file, and start fresh.

if you are experiencing ui glitches besides the "www...", try updating all ui mods that you have. this includes but is not limited to: ui cheats, better build buy, more columns in cas, more traits in cas, expanded build buy, custom ui colours, etc.. if the issue persists, make sure your game is updated, sometimes an up-to-date mod and an out-of-date game can cause severe ui glitches. if the issue still persists; follow this guide.

now onto the rest;

first, run your game. make a new save, make sure your current save isnt just a fluke. if it is just your current save, try recovering your save. if it isnt just your current save, do the following:

close your game entirely. even after closing the window, check your task manager to be sure its not open in the background

open your sims 4 game folder. your game path should be one of these:

C:\Users\[user]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\ (Windows)

Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/ (macOS)

once youve located your game folder, remove your entire save folder and mods folder. put these onto your desktop.

clear you cache (localthumbcache)

run your game with nothing in it. if the issue persists, close the game and open up whichever app you use to play it (ea, origin, steam). if the issue doesnt persist, skip to the final steps.

to repair your game, open the app you use to run TS4 and repair your files. typically this is done by clicking the game in your library and clicking the three dots, an option to repair your game should be there- however its been awhile since ive done this so i may be wrong! look it up if you need to! also make sure the game is completely up-to-date. if you cannot repair your game, clear the cache of the app you run it with. if this does not work, uninstall and reinstall the app. if issues persist, check online fourms for help!

if you use the anadius version of the sims 4, make sure you repair and update your game using his launcher, too.

once your game is updated and repaired, run the game with no mods or saves in it once again.

if the game loads and runs fine up till here, create a new save and test it.

if the new save runs fine, add your saves back into the game. do not add back the folder, only the files within the folder. your game should automatically create a new saves folder, as well as a new mods folder.

test the saves, if they work as normal then youre good to move on to the final steps. if they do not work, i suggest doing one of these:

try to recover/restore the save. you can do this by restoring a previous version from the "load save" menu, clicking the floppy-disk will allow you to restore a previous version before the bug happened.

if you cant recover your save but can open the save file without any immediate crashes, try to open cas and save the sims to your gallery.

if neither of those options work, your save may be a lost cause. im so sorry!

if everythings worked up to this point then youre good to do these... final steps

before adding back your mods folder, update all of your mods! (unless you know which mod is causing the issue)

are your mods up to date already? check their compatibility with both the game and other mods! most mod download pages will have a list of what is/is not compatible.

did you install a mod that requires a pack you dont own/have installed? either remove the mod or install the pack! you can check here to see a list of every sims 4 ep/gp/etc. name and number!

did you install a mod that requires a different utility mod that you dont have? either remove said mod or add the utility you need! this often breaks a game! a lot of mods require lumpinous mood pack, i always recommend to check for that first!

readd your mods, use the new mods folder that should have been created! make sure your script files are directly in your mods folder or only one folder deep, no deeper! make sure any other file (package files) are no more than five folders deep. typically, modders will tell you how deep their files can go, but one folder deep is my general reccomendation!

test your game! if it works, then congrats!

if any issues continue to persist, you can send me a message or an ask with the trouble youre having and i will try to help. otherwise, you may need to contact ea. this guide should be able to fix all problems regarding the game, unless the problem stems from a bad mod that you keep readding or game troubles themselves. the sims 4 is very buggy, play it safe, backup your saves!

If I whip up a virtual harddrive on a laptop running Linux, plug that laptop into a Mac, and get the Mac to think the virtual harddrive is an iPhone and use it to get the Mac to install Apple Arcade onto the laptop so I can play Sonic Dream Team - is that evidence that macOS is top notch? How is an operating system getting tricked into allowing a foreign program to interact with it a credit to how good the operating system and NOT the program that's jacking it?

I installed elementary OS 8 on my 2011 MacBook Pro after no longer wanting Zorin OS on it, and now that I’m experiencing it (and the community surrounding it), I’m realizing that I would rather put my dick in a meat grinder than be remotely associated with this operating system.

And after hours of downloading, troubleshooting, installing, and setting up, I’m just so tired. I’m ready to go back to macOS, full-time. I’ve put the latest macOS on this machine via OpenCore Legacy Patcher before. It’s a shame my days in Linux end like this. I’ve genuinely enjoyed it for the past few years, but I’m just so tired of the elitism, the division, the complications, the errors, the you-name-it. There’s always a problem.
